When should I book a newborn photographer?
When should I book you for our newborn photography session?
That is the number one question I get asked. For expecting mothers, it can be tricky figuring out when to contact a newborn photographer. How on earth can you possibly know when exactly the baby will arrive to schedule such a session? The last thing you need to be worrying about is trying to find and schedule a photographer while adjusting to life with a new baby.
The ideal time to book your newborn photographer is during your second trimester. Book your due date and cross it off your To Do List. While it’s totally cool to book in the third trimester, you may run the risk of your photographer not being available and unable to help. I try to take as many last-minute newborn sessions, but sometimes it’s tough to be able to squeeze someone in without much notice.
How do you schedule a newborn session when you’re not sure how close you’ll be to the baby's due date?
When you book with me, I will secure the week before and after to ensure my availability to accommodate you. All you have to do is let me know when the baby has arrived, and we’ll schedule a more concrete time then. Don’t worry if you are weeks early or late, I will have time for you.
Why do you schedule newborn sessions as close as possible to their birth date?
When babies are between 1-10 days old, they are much easier to pose. That’s because they are sleepier and less likely to be startled when moving into multiple positions. They are also incredibly flexible and melt into sweet positions. Their newborn features also are fleeting…it’s incredibly important to capture those moments.
The best time to schedule a posed newborn session is around 1-10 days old.

What is newborn photography?
Newborn photography is a form of portraiture dedicated to capturing images of newborn babies. The focus of the photos is usually on the baby’s facial expressions, body language, and overall development. Newborn photography is typically done within the first two weeks of a baby’s life, as this is when they are the sleepiest and most flexible.
Newborn photography is a great way to document your baby’s first few days in the world, capture their unique features, and start a lifelong tradition of documenting your family’s memories. From studio shoots to lifestyle photography, there are many different types of newborn photography to choose from.
Benefits of newborn photography
The benefits of newborn photography are numerous! Not only will you have beautiful photos to look over and cherish, but you’ll also be able to look back on your baby’s early days and remember the special moments that you shared.
Newborn photography can also provide a great bonding experience between you and your baby. You’ll be able to connect with your little one in a way that you can’t do any other time in their life. It’s a time to capture the innocence and beauty of your newborn before they grow up too quickly.
Finally, newborn photography is a great way to get creative and express yourself as a parent. You can choose the props and costumes that you want to use, or even create some of your own. Your photos can become a unique part of your family’s history.
Different types of newborn photography
When it comes to newborn photography, there are many different types from which to choose. Studio photography is ideal for those who want more control over the environment, lighting, and props. This is a great option for those who want the photos to look more professional and polished.
Lifestyle photography is a more relaxed and natural approach to newborn photography. This type of photography focuses on capturing the special moments between the baby and their parents. You can even incorporate your home into the photographs, which can add a personal touch to the pictures.
Outdoor photography is another great option for those who want to capture the beauty of nature in their newborn photos. This type of photography allows you to capture the beauty of the outdoors and incorporate it into the pictures.
I try to get angles that no one else has shown, techniques out of the norm, and styles not yet seen. I want to give the viewer a different perspective. I do this by combining all of the above with posing, documentary, and candid shots in each of my sessions. I will ensure that your galleries will have a tasteful variety of my favorite styles of photographs.
How to choose a newborn photographer
When it comes to choosing a newborn photographer, there are a few things to consider. First, you should make sure that the photographer is experienced and knowledgeable in newborn photography, as this will ensure that your photos will come out looking beautiful. You should also make sure that the photographer is comfortable working with newborns and that they have the necessary safety precautions in place.
Additionally, it’s important to find a photographer that makes you feel comfortable. You want to make sure that you can trust them and that you love their style.
Finally, make sure to ask for samples of their work before you book the session. This will help you get an idea of the type of photos they take and the quality of the images.
Preparing for a newborn photoshoot
Preparing for a newborn photoshoot can be a bit daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are a few tips to make sure that everything goes smoothly.
First, make sure to plan ahead. Decide what type of photos you want and make sure to have the necessary props and costumes ready. Also, make sure to plan for any special touches that you may want to add to the photos, such as special blankets, hats, or stuffed animals.
Next, make sure to create a comfortable environment for your baby. If you’re doing an indoor shoot, make sure to turn up the heat, as newborns can get cold easily. Also, make sure that the room is quiet and free of distractions.
Finally, make sure to feed your baby before the shoot. This will help ensure that your baby is content and relaxed during the session.

The Gilmore Family, Blogged.
Erie Newborn Photography
The Gilmore Family
On Location at Home
When I found out my boyfriend’s brother’s family was expecting their fourth child, I knew the perfect gift I could give them is newborn photos of their son. We made the three-hour trip to visit them for the weekend, also while planning to see (my first!) a Penn State football game (We Are!!!) and enjoy breakfast at our favorite joint, the Original Waffle Shop.
Wow. Can anyone say baby fever?! I was instantly in love with this little guy, and it made me melt to watch his family dote all over him, especially my boyfriend. He’s so great with his nieces and just blew me away with how sweet he was to his newborn nephew.
The beauty of on-location photography is that it gives me the opportunity to document the life of a family in a unique and meaningful way. My first on-location photo session at home was so amazing to experience. I was able to capture candid moments as well as more posed photos that highlighted the family’s connection and love for one another. From the outdoor location to the cozy home, this session was full of love and connection. With the help of natural light and the beautiful setting, the photos were stunning and truly unique.
I feel incredibly honored to capture these first few weeks for the Gilmore family. I know I’m a bit biased, but this family was so wonderful! Baby R. was so beautiful he made my job easy creating gorgeous images. I know that these photographs will be cherished for a lifetime. Here are a few of my favorites.
If you’re looking for a Photographer in Erie, PA who can travel to capture and share your story, you’ve come to the right place. I’m an Erie, PA native, but I’ve also lived in Cleveland, OH, Pittsburgh, PA, and Buffalo, NY. Photography captures real moments and true emotions. I want to give the viewer a different perspective by combining posing, documentary, and candid shots in each of my sessions. I will ensure that your galleries will have a tasteful variety of my favorite styles of photographs. I am passionate about capturing all of the details of your new baby and creating beautiful, timeless images that you will cherish forever.
One of the best parts of hiring a traveling newborn photographer is that you can just relax during the session. You don’t need to leave the house (which is such a struggle with a new baby!). If you have other children, they can be comfortable in their own environment, play and have snacks, and take their time to warm up to the idea of a stranger photographing them. And while I am photographing the baby, you can take your time getting picture-ready for those priceless first family photos.
I would love to travel to your location to tell your story of strength, romance, passion, and the emotion that ties you to your loved ones with my images, forever recording the most beautiful moments of love people will ever share.

FAQ about traveling newborn photography
Q: What do we bring to photograph your baby? A: Everything! Pretty much a tote filled with our professional, studio lighting, props, wraps, and outfits. We photograph your little one from the comforts of your own home.
Q: How do you even book the session without knowing exactly when baby will arrive? A: We will keep in touch A LOT as you get closer to your due date. Luckily, in order to get those newborn poses you want most, there is a two-week window we have to schedule everything perfectly.
Q: Wouldn’t it be easier to just find someone in my area to photograph my baby? A: It really depends on your goals, what is important to you, and where you live. Recently, a friend of mine a couple states away expressed frustration at finding the right photographer in her area. Later, she told me how awful her experience was with her chosen photographer. When you find a photographer you love, it can make more sense to go with someone you trust and a little bit of traveling.
